The Story of Sâmburești
Sâmburești proudly entered history, with its name mentioned in documents over four hundred years ago. At that time, the estate was under the rule of Theodosie Rudeanu, a great nobleman, chancellor, chronicler, diplomat, and strategist, right hand to the famous Wallachian ruler Mihai Viteazul. Historical records show that wine was already being produced in Sâmburești as early as 1638.
The modern story of Sâmburești wine begins with an aristocratic gesture. Almost a century ago, Vintilă Brătianu, a nobleman and one of Romania’s most influential politicians, invited the renowned French oenologist August Joseph Ville to his estate in Sâmburești. On Ville’s recommendation, Vintilă replanted the vineyards with noble French varieties—a bold decision rewarded with a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1926.
Thus, the legend of Sâmburești wine began, a legend that continues today with the same passion and dedication.
